The fair trade experiences of companies like Oxfam Canada's Bridgehead Inc. and other members of the International Federation for Alternative Trade (IFAT) provide examples of issues and relationships in international trade which community enterprises can learn much from in their efforts to explore international trade and co operation. This paper attempts to summarize a number of these lessons and issues from the perspective of the author's experience with alternative trading companies (ATOs) and fair trade labels.
